BIC Innovation Career Stories: From Placement to a 13-Year Career

At BIC Innovation, we believe in nurturing talent, providing opportunities, and creating a workplace where employees can thrive. Many of our team members have grown their careers with us, developing new skills and stepping into leadership roles.

In this Q&A, we speak with Anna Pearce, Head of Marketing, who started at BIC on a short-term placement and is now leading the marketing team. She shares her career journey, the lessons she’s learned along the way, and why BIC has been the right place for her to grow professionally.

1. Can you tell us about your career path and how you ended up in your current role?

I’ve been with BIC for 12 years now, but my journey here started in a way I never expected. I joined on a six-week GoWales placement, fresh from university, just looking for an opportunity to get my foot in the door and start applying my skills in a professional setting.

That short placement turned into a full-time role, and from there, I kept developing, moving from Project Assistant to Marketing Coordinator, then Marketing Manager, and now Head of Marketing. Looking back, I had no idea I’d still be here 12 years later, but the opportunities I’ve had at BIC have kept me engaged, challenged, and excited for what’s next.

2. How has your role changed over the years, and how have you adapted?

I started at BIC with a design for advertising degree, but I quickly realised that marketing is about so much more than creativity, it’s about strategy, problem-solving, and continuous learning. Through BIC’s supportive environment, I was able to explore different areas of marketing and develop new skills that helped shape my career.

A big turning point was when I moved to BIC’s South Wales office about eight years ago. This shift gave me new responsibilities, new challenges, and a fresh perspective. Every stage of my career at BIC has been a learning experience, and that’s what I love about working here – you’re always growing, always adapting, and always supported.

3. What specific skills or experiences have you gained through your career progression?

One of the most valuable aspects of working at BIC is the continuous learning culture. We operate an initiative called STEP Talks, which helps team members explore their career development and future aspirations. Through this, I was able to transition into more marketing-focused work, first supporting BIC’s own marketing, then working directly with clients on branding, graphic design, marketing audits, and strategy development.

Working alongside a talented, multidisciplinary team has been a game-changer. Every project brings new challenges and new learning opportunities.

4. What was the moment you knew you’d made the right decision to work here?

There have been many moments, but one that stands out is when BIC became a hybrid employee-owned business in 2018. When the opportunity came to buy shares in the company, I didn’t hesitate. It reinforced what I already knew – that BIC values its employees and invests in its future.

Every day, we help businesses grow, solve challenges, and achieve their goals. Our team is passionate, driven, and committed to delivering the best results for our clients, and that energy is something I find incredibly motivating.

5. What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your role or at BIC?

Stay curious, be proactive, and never stop learning. But most of all, enjoy the work you do. When you’re surrounded by great people, tackling interesting challenges, and continuously growing, it is very rewarding.

From a six-week placement to Head of Marketing, Anna’s experience highlights how the right opportunities, support, and mindset can turn a job into a thriving career.

We’re grateful to have Anna on the team, and we look forward to seeing where her journey takes her next!
