Brandon’s role at BIC involves supporting clients, helping them to grow and add value. He also plays a significant part in BIC’s sustainability initiatives, contributing to projects that have a lasting positive impact on the environment and society.

His journey with BIC started during a challenging time – the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I joined during the pandemic, It was quite difficult all being at home, so it really was all about getting to know everyone on the team. And then as soon as we opened up and we could go back into the offices, that’s really where I started to see the culture—the supportive culture, the innovative culture—and just seeing how well everyone works together.”
Despite the challenges of starting a new job remotely, BIC’s supportive culture quickly became apparent to Brandon. One initiative that made a significant difference was the ‘Coffee Roulette’ scheme. “You would have a 20-minute conversation with an employee in another department, and the only rule was not to talk about work,” Brandon explains. “It sort of prepared everyone for when we ended up back in the office. We sort of knew people already. It was a really good scheme, I thought.” This initiative helped build connections across the company, laying the groundwork for a strong collaborative environment.
Brandon’s career at BIC has been marked by continuous growth and development, with opportunities to expand his skill set and take on new challenges. “When I started at BIC, I started in market research, helping clients fill some of their knowledge gaps. Then I joined a circular economy project, as a project officer. And then with mentoring, from Huw Watkins, one of the directors, I transitioned into another role within Innovate UK Business Growth, helping to onboard clients, helping with internationalisation, and supporting with market research and insight as well.”
Mentorship has played a crucial role in Brandon’s development at BIC. “The mentoring was really useful for me to get a greater understanding of how we deliver client value,” he notes. “We want to support clients to grow and add value, as opposed to just giving them the answers.” This focus on long-term growth rather than short-term solutions is a pillar of BIC’s approach to client support.
Brandon is particularly passionate about the positive impact that BIC aims to have on the environment and society, a commitment that was further solidified when BIC achieved its BCorp certification. “The real joy I get from working with BIC is the people that we work with, the value that we deliver for clients, the environmental and social impact that we have,”
Brandon says. “Getting BCorp just really solidified what we were already doing. It just signals to staff, and potential future employees, that BIC is having a positive environmental and social impact in its area and Wales. You can have no doubt then that the value / the work you’re doing is having a positive impact.”
The BCorp certification is more than just a badge; it’s a testament to BIC’s ongoing commitment to making a difference. For Brandon, it validates the work he does every day, ensuring that his efforts contribute to something meaningful.
As Brandon looks ahead, he is excited about continuing his journey with BIC, focusing on creating value and making a positive impact in every aspect of his work. His story is a powerful reminder of the importance of purpose-driven work and the value of a supportive, innovative work environment.
