At BIC Innovation, we believe that career development, employee well-being, and a strong company culture go hand in hand. Our team members don’t just work here – they grow, learn, and shape the company’s future. In this Q&A, we sit down with Angharad Evans, Marketing Operations Manager, to talk about her journey at BIC, how the company supports its employees, and what makes working here unique.
1. What do you think sets BIC apart from other companies you have worked for in the past?
Since joining BIC seven and a half years ago, I’ve had opportunities I never imagined. I started as a Food Project Coordinator, and over time, I’ve taken on different roles that have expanded my skills and experiences. I’ve learned about export, trade visits, and international business development—including leading a group of food and drink businesses on a trade visit to Qatar, which was a huge milestone for me.
One of the biggest differences at BIC is that we are a hybrid employee-owned business, meaning I have a personal stake in the company’s success. Being a shareholder gives me an extra level of investment in BIC’s growth, and it’s a great feeling to know that my contributions directly impact the company’s future.
2. How does BIC promote work-life balance and employee well-being, and what impact has this had on you personally?
BIC has always been incredibly supportive of work-life balance. As a mother of two, I know first-hand how challenging it can be to juggle work and family life. The company’s flexible working policies have made a huge difference to me. Whether it’s a sick child at home or appointments to attend, I never have to stress about balancing responsibilities.
Having that level of trust and flexibility has removed a lot of pressure and allowed me to focus on both my work and my family without compromise. It’s something that truly sets BIC apart and makes a real difference in day-to-day life.
3. Can you describe any company initiatives or events that contribute to the company culture and encourage open communication between employees?
BIC has some fantastic initiatives that bring our team together, especially since we are based in different locations across Wales. It’s easy to feel siloed in projects, but the company makes sure we stay connected.
One of my favourites is Coffee Roulette – a simple but brilliant way for colleagues to catch up informally, meet new team members, and have conversations that aren’t just about work. It’s a great way to break down barriers across departments.
A spin-off of that is Project Roulette, where each month a different project team presents what they are working on. This helps everyone stay updated on what’s happening across the company, especially since we have so many projects running at once.
Another initiative that stands out is Iaith yn y Gwaith, a Welsh language learning group we run every fortnight. Welsh speakers support colleagues who are learning the language, but it’s more than just language – it’s about understanding Welsh culture and regional differences. It’s fun, informal, and a great way to bring people together, no matter their background.
Angharad’s passion, adaptability, and dedication are a true reflection of what we value at BIC, and we’re grateful to have her as part of the team.
