Richard Lewis

Senior Finance Consultant

Richard works with food and drink businesses to help them get a better handle on their finances, rethink their strategy, and figure out what kind of funding makes the most sense. Having worked in a variety of sectors he makes the numbers less intimidating and helps business owners make confident, informed decisions about where they’re headed.

Qualifying as a CIMA accountant in the early 1990’s Richard has a wealth of commercial experience from working in food and steel manufacturing, distribution and in the leisure industry.

In one sentence, what do you do at BIC?

Help the businesses we work with better understand and utilise the systems they work with, to provide more positive outcomes.

how has your skillset grown over time?

I’ve had a pretty varied career—working with everything from PLCs and SMEs to charities, venture capital-backed companies and international organisations. Each business has gone through its own kind of change, whether driven by internal shifts or market forces. Along the way, I’ve learned to adapt quickly, work with different systems and teams and build a broad skillset that helps me handle whatever comes next.

what advice would you give your past self?

Don’t get caught up following a strict career plan – life throws some wonderful curveballs along the way!

Any top tips for managing multiple tasks and tight deadlines?

Stay organised, manage expectations and review priorities.

What’s something you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

I have 8 bicycles in my garage – so it’s fair to say I’m an avid cyclist.
