Carl Harris

Operations Manager
In one sentence, what do you do at BIC?

I am responsible for the management of quality assurance programmes, IT, H&S, training employees, monitoring existing processes and analysing their effectiveness in order to create strategies to improve productivity and efficiency within BIC.

Tell me how you got started in your career.

I have a military background working within senior operations management in high pressure environments both in the UK and abroad where operations, at every level are integral to the strategic plan. I employ the same tried and tested techniques within BIC.

What’s a mistake you made early on in your career, and what did you learn from it?

I attempted to take on everything myself, I quickly realised that the best managers delegate effectively to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.

Any top tips for managing multiple tasks and tight deadlines?

Create a plan of attack, prioritise the tasks, allocate a timeframe to each and track your progress, factor in an allowance for delays and slip, remain fluid and stay frosty!

One thing that always surprises people about you?

I featured in an advert for the Casio G Shock Tactical Watch.

What are your key skills?

Adaptability in the face of adversity, strategic planning, the ability to “Improvise, Adapt and Overcome.”
