Chris Price-Jones has a wide-ranging business and industrial management background, from factory floor to group board level.
He has spent over 40 years in food R&D. He has also spent time in education as a lecturer and at senior management level. The core of this work has always been about managing change, evaluating and implementing R&D based projects that have delivered market-making new products, production processes and growth. He has also developed new methods of learning and visualization in R&D and innovation methodology and scientific and technical areas of expertise. His company credits are Boots, Beechams, Cadbury and the Callard & Bowser group; finishing his industrial career with Leaf Group as a board director for this major global food group.
Since becoming a director and co-owner of BIC Innovation, Chris has developed a number of tools for assessing viability, potential and realistic costs for R&D /innovation projects. The BIC 'ICE' process is one of these tools (ICE – Innovation, Commercialisation & Exploitation).Chris is currently engaged in a wide number of food projects, such as NutriWales and Foodworks South West. These are encouraging and supporting companies to become more engaged with market-making R&D-led product development. This is real science producing radically new food products or services, not food fashion or fad led. Chris is a scale-up director on the Innovate UK Scale-up pilot projects, assessing and supporting companies to bridge the 'valley of death' and accelerate their growth trajectory. He remains convinced that R&D/innovation is the most vital task to maintain a competitive advantage and grow and build a sustainable future in any company. Innovation is not a' one-off' task; it must be done repeatedly in an efficient and effective manner to ensure full benefit to the company bottom line. His range of expertise spans developing and designing new products and process systems, and managing factory renewal and relocation programmes, including technology transfer within, and to, companies, and developing and mentoring the company team to meet the innovation needs of the business.
