‘Passion for Dairy’


On the 12th & 13th of November Aberystwyth University, Gogerddan campus will be hosting the Science of Dairy Technology’s (SDT) Autumn symposium.

With approx. 50 delegates already registered to attend of which a strong presence from BIC Innovation, from a diverse range of disciplines.

The two-day event will begin with a tour of the Volac’s Felinfach site; a ‘Whey processing and Biomass Power Station’, to observe first-hand the logistics, challenges and outputs of a large-scale manufacturing site and the provision of Biomass processes whose objective is to ensure sustainable and nutritional dairy processing. With the tagline - Dairy Nutrition for a Healthier World.

Day two will commence with the annual general meeting for the SDT members and a welcoming address from Paul Bouchier, the President of the SDT. Followed by a packed schedule focused on the benefits of optimising and sustaining processes from expert Hassan Yazdi, from GEA.

Proceeded by a presentation to investigate the maximization of milk processing capabilities and current innovations within the dairy sector such as; membrane filtration, procedures to access organic and inorganic Biofilm fouling by Benoît Duculot from REALCO.

Pre-lunch will open the how technology can be used to optimise milk yield presented by Dr Mark Whatton from QCL. 

After a spot of lunch and networking the afternoon will investigate how the dairy industry can optimise process from speakers Steve and Paul Bagshaw from HOLCHEM.

Dr Rhian Hayward MBE, Aberystwyth Innovation and Enterprise Campus Ltd., will present the mid-afternoon session outlining the developments within IBERS and how they can greatly aid the developments of dairy technology and raise the question of what is required by the dairy industry to ensure development and innovation keeps dairy at the forefront of food and agricultural industries. The session will then open up to disscssion and Q&A session followed by a toiur of the university campus lead by Dr Rhain Jones MBE and Ben Jones from AIEC.

The day will be rounded off at approx. 16.00hrs by an events summary by President, Paul Bouchier.

The programmes aim is to facilitate engagement from all areas of the dairy industry with expert leads.

Overall the Autumn Symposium sets to be a greatly insightful, interactive and informative event.
