We are regarded as market leading business consultants carrying out a range of support programmes throughout Wales. With offices on Anglesey, Aberystwyth and Bridgend, part of our remit is delivering business growth and innovation projects on behalf of Welsh Government and other public bodies. We are looking to appoint a Business Analyst, which is a new role as part of the Future Foods Programme.


About the project

The project has been specifically designed to deliver world class expertise in food science, technology, nutrition, research and development to ambitious Welsh-based food businesses seeking to develop healthy, market-creating products targeted at UK and international markets. There is increasing recognition amongst Welsh food businesses of the vital importance of engaging strategically in R&D to drive their future growth and competitiveness. The Future Foods programme will, therefore, provide a key pathway to stimulate engagement in R&D and deliver practical and focused academic, technical and commercial support for company-led R&D projects right through to market launch, and stimulate commercial investment in food R&D.

Projects that are likely to be developed will be in the following areas: advances in agriculture, food and drink, nutrition, sustainability as well as a wide range of general commercial and strategic due diligence assignments.

Funded via the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) with match funding from Welsh Government, the programme will run for 3 years and benefit companies operating in West Wales and the Valleys.  

The Business Analyst role is full time (37.5 hrs/week) fixed term appointment and based at BIC Innovation’s offices at either SONY Technology Centre in Bridgend, Innovation Campus, Aberystwyth or the Menai Science Park, Anglesey.


About the Role

Reporting to the Cluster Facilitation Manager and working as part of the project team, you will play a key role in the delivery of high quality and timely commercial and technical information to help support a portfolio of R&D based project areas. We are looking for a highly self-motivated, organised individual with excellent written and verbal skills and a proven track record as an effective team player.

You ideally have previous experience of creating and presenting high quality market and technical reports from quick snapshot reviews through to in-depth sector analysis with experience of working with multiple internal and external stakeholders.


What you will do

  • You will be responsible for the design, delivery and presentation of market and technical insight information to underpin the delivery of a range of exciting R&D focused projects. 

  • You will develop relevant recommendations and strategies for clients based on insight in the form of briefing papers, market research reports, technology horizon scanning reports, executive summaries, proposals and presentations

  • You will contribute to client workshops in the form of presenting insights

  • You will have an active business development role and client support tasks, which can include; attending trade shows, client presentation engagements, developing and supporting the presentation of commercial proposals

  • You will carry out high end quality research projects delivered on time and within budget 


Who you are

  • You are educated to a degree, masters or post graduate level in a relevant subject area and / or equivalent experience related to the role.

  • You have experience of delivering commercial and technical research reports and information.

  • You have previously worked on collaborative R&D projects.

  • You have a strong demonstrable level of commercial and technical acumen.

  • You have experience of dealing with a variety of activities and stakeholders at any one time.

  • You will have an interest in broad range of new technologies and global trends

  • You have an ability to acquire, analyse and present information

  • You have experience in conducting research (primary and secondary), market analysis and synthesis of qualitative and quantitative data.

  • You will have an understanding of commercial and technical drivers

  • You will have an understanding of innovation and commercial R&D

  • You ideally will be able to create business plans.

  • You have the ability to work with team members based remotely with the ability to interact with senior level executives

  • You have excellent client relationship management skills and have experience of working on collaborative projects

  • You are naturally well organised, able to plan,  execute projects and work to deadlines

  • You have exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills with the ability to work efficiently and professionally with a range of internal and external stakeholders

  • You will have a full driving license and are able to travel to meet clients on sometimes remote areas.

  • A competitive salary between £35,000 and £40,000 dependant on experience
