Food and Drink companies join debate on issues facing the industry…
Following the success of previous ‘Wake up to Opportunities’ events, Old Mill Accountants and Financial Planners and BIC Innovation once again joined forces to host this food and drink breakfast event.
Held at the Bristol Golf Club, over 35 professionals from a cross section of the Food and Drink supply chain came together to debate issues facing the industry.
A panel of industry experts…
The event included a panel of industry experts from across the food and drink supply chain, who have expertise ranging from marketing and distribution, through to new products and finance, the panel included:
Richard Hunt - Hunt’s Foodservice
Bev Milner Simonds - eat:Festivals
Janis Sinton - Taste Tech
Jolyon Stonehouse - Old Mill
Facilitated by BICs John Taylerson, the event provided the opportunity for delegates to shape discussions by asking questions on hot topics and getting involved in the debate. It was great to see such positive, valuable, engaging and thought-provoking contributions from both the panel and the delegates.
What did we discuss?
Hot topics (not surprisingly) included the impact of Brexit on the food and drink industry, with the overriding opinion in the room concluding that the impact may not be as daunting as initially anticipated in the media, and that the industry should embrace opportunities which may arise.
Debate also focused on the much-publicised issue surrounding plastic packaging, participants believe the large multiples have an important role to play, and that as soon as a solution is found, the multiples will drive change and the industry will follow.
Another topic of discussion centred around the expense of land resulting in a lack of self-sufficiency in food production with many feeling that there is a need for new entrants in the markets.
In previous editions we have also discussed issues such as: the rise of the vegan, exporting and currency, new products development, selling online and dealing with volatile markets.
Following the event many participants remained at the venue to network, and the feeling amongst delegates was that the event was worthwhile, provided food for thought and encouraged new thinking on such current topics.
