Are you adapting your production to support the fight against COVID-19?

If you are currently in the process of, or considering adapting your production lines to support the fight against coronavirus (COVID-19), here are a few schemes which you should be aware of…

The Covid-19 Resilience Innovation Project Support is part of the Welsh Government's response to the Coronavirus outbreak, looking at supporting Innovative projects that can have a direct impact on how we fight the virus.

The grant could support up to 50% of expenditure on capital, consumables and your time costs, for the production of medical devices, PPE and sanitising products.

The Covid-19 Resilience Innovation Project Support can be used to fund;

  • the purchasing of specific equipment
  • adjustments to existing processes
  • implementation of new processes

The production of medical devices, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the delivery of sanitising products are all potential areas that could be addressed by the support. https://businesswales.gov.wales/expertisewales/covid-19-resilience-innovation-project-support

If you are uncertain about your adaptation project then talk to us and we may be able to help through our delivery of the SMART Innovation support programme. Your business could also be eligible to receive SMART Innovation support which would allow you to access between 3-5 days of expert advice on topics such as process innovation, which will enable you to bring the product or process adaptation to fruition faster. SMART Innovation have a pool of industry experts who have already supported hundreds of businesses to improve productivity, access potential grants and underpin the growth of their businesses. The SMART Innovation advisors are now on hand to specifically advise and support businesses who are adapting their production lines.

Lastly, don’t forget to look at the whole project and its potential for R&D tax credit relief. So that means that you should have a running record of your time spent and consumable costs on this project to date and keep this record active until the product is through development and into full scale manufacturing. R&D tax credit relief is a government incentive designed to reward UK companies for investing in innovation. Small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) R&D tax relief allows companies to recoup some R&D costs.
